The quickest upgrade for any stream is audio, whether you go live from a PC or a PS5. Viewers will put up with a soft webcam, but a muffled headset mic or a room full of echo makes them click away. The good news: you don’t need to spend much. Every mic here was listed at under £50 on Amazon UK when we shortlisted it (October 2026). Prices move constantly, so use the buttons to check today’s price. (Here’s how we choose products.)

We’ve also checked one thing most budget lists skip: whether each mic says it works with a PS5. Several of these plug straight into the console; others are PC-only. Look for the PS5 line in each pick’s specs.

  • Best for small desks: Razer Seiren V3 Mini (#2)
  • Best mic + arm in one box: Ortizan C1 (#7)

by FIFINE

Who it’s for: Anyone moving up from a headset mic who wants a simple, sturdy desk mic that just plugs in – on PC, Mac or PS5.

Verdict: The long-running budget default for a reason: metal body, a gain knob on the mic and nothing to install.

What we like

  • Plug-and-play USB, no drivers or 48V phantom power needed
  • Gain knob on the mic itself, so you can turn yourself down mid-stream
  • Solid metal construction and a tripod stand in the box (per the listing)
  • Listing confirms PS4/PS5 support

Worth knowing

  • No headphone jack for monitoring and no mute button
  • Doesn’t work with Xbox or phones (the listing says so)

Buying guide

What actually matters on a budget PC or PS5 mic

At under £50, most USB mics sound broadly similar. What separates them is the stuff around the sound:

  1. Mute you can reach. A tap-to-mute top (#2, #3, #7, #8, #10) beats hunting for a software toggle when you cough.
  2. Headphone monitoring. A 3.5mm jack (#4, #5, #7, #8) lets you hear exactly what your viewers hear.
  3. Console support. If you stream from a PS5, only buy a mic whose listing says it works with one.
  4. Room noise. In a noisy room, go for a tight supercardioid pattern (#2, #6) or a noise reduction mode (#5).

Placement beats price

The single biggest improvement is getting the mic closer to your mouth – roughly a hand’s width away, slightly off to the side to cut down on pops. A cheap mic close up will usually beat an expensive mic at arm’s length across the desk. That’s why a mic arm is the best next purchase after the mic itself.

Check the thread before you buy an arm

Boom arms and mic stands use either a 3/8-inch or 5/8-inch screw thread. Most arms include an adapter, but a few mics (like the FIFINE A6V) note that you may need one. It’s a cheap part – just worth knowing before you build your setup.

Do I need software?

Every mic here works plug-and-play. Software (Logitech G HUB, JBL QuantumENGINE) adds lighting and fine-tuning, but you don’t need it to sound good in OBS or Discord.

Prices change all the time. We don’t show prices on What2Buy – use the “Check price on Amazon” buttons for the current price.

FAQ

Do USB microphones work on a PS5?

Many do – the PS5 accepts most class-compliant USB mics, and several picks here (#1, #3, #4, #7, #8, #10) say so on their Amazon listings. Others only mention PC. If you stream from a console, check the PS5 line in each pick’s specs before you buy.

Do USB mics work on Xbox?

Generally no. Xbox doesn’t support most USB microphones, and listings such as the FIFINE K669B and A6V say outright that they’re not Xbox compatible.

Condenser or dynamic – which is better for streaming?

Condenser mics (every pick here) are sensitive and detailed, which is great in a quiet room. Dynamic mics pick up less background noise, so they’re more forgiving in a noisy or echoey room – but you need to speak close to them, and good USB/XLR dynamics such as the FIFINE K688 were over £50 when we checked. On a tighter budget, a supercardioid mic (#2, #6) or the UGREEN’s noise reduction mode (#5) does a similar job.

Do I need a boom arm?

Not to start with, but getting the mic closer to your mouth is the cheapest way to sound better. See our best mic arms under £50 – or pick the Ortizan (#7), which comes with one.

Are these prices guaranteed to be under £50?

No. Everything here was listed at under £50 on Amazon UK when we shortlisted it, but Amazon prices change constantly. Always check the current price on Amazon before you buy – that’s why we don’t print prices on the page.
